    Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Tanzania - Arrival in Arusha

Morning/Afternoon: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our Tour Director and team will greet you at the gate with a warm welcome. They will assist with luggage and smooth your passage through customs and immigration.

Transfer: A comfortable, private vehicle will transfer you to your accessible hotel in Arusha.

Afternoon: Complete Flexibility. Time to rest and acclimate. This could be:

Low-Energy Option: Relax at the hotel, enjoy the pool, and have a quiet dinner.

Gentle Exploration: A short, guided walk in the hotel's serene gardens.

Evening: The Tour Director will host a relaxed safari briefing, using visual aids (maps, pictures) to explain the upcoming days. This is also the time to confirm any specific needs or adjustments for the days ahead.

    Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: A wheelchair-friendly lodge near Arusha (e.g., Arusha Coffee Lodge or similar, with confirmed accessible rooms).

    Day 2 & 3: Giants & Baobabs - Tarangire National Park

Morning (Day 2): After a relaxed breakfast, we depart for Tarangire National Park. The drive is scenic, with stops as needed. Our vehicle is a custom, pop-top 4x4 safari jeep with guaranteed window seats for all, a fridge for cool drinks, and a power source for any necessary medical equipment.

Afternoon: Enter Tarangire, famous for its massive elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. Our first game drive will be shorter, focusing on getting a feel for the bush. We can stop frequently for snacks, drinks, and sensory breaks.

Day 3 - Full Day in Tarangire: The day is structured around your family's pace.

Option A (Full Day with Downtime): Morning game drive, return to the lodge for lunch and a long swim/rest, followed by a shorter afternoon drive.

Option B (Split Days): Shorter, highly focused game drives in the peak animal activity hours (early morning and late afternoon) with the middle of the day dedicated to lodge-based activities.

Sensory Focus: The Tour Director will point out the textures of baobab trees, the sounds of bird calls, and the sight of elephant social interactions.

Meals: Full Board (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Accommodation: A child and wheelchair-friendly lodge (e.g., Tarangire Sopa Lodge or Maramboi Tented Lodge, with confirmed accessible tents/lodges).

Day 4&5: The Crater & The Highlands - Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Morning (Day 4): We drive towards the Ngorongoro Highlands. The journey is part of the adventure, with stunning views. We will stop at a viewpoint for a first look into the Ngorongoro Crater—a breathtaking, easily accessible moment.

Afternoon: Check into our lodge on the crater rim. The afternoon is for relaxation to enjoy the incredible view and the cooler climate. An optional, gentle visit to a Masai cultural village (pre-arranged, respectful, and not overwhelming) can be organized.

Day 5 - Ngorongoro Crater Descent:
Morning: We descend the steep road into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural zoo and one of the best places to see the Big Five. The crater floor is flat, making for easy, rewarding game viewing.

Lunch: A special picnic lunch at the hippo pool picnic site—a fantastic, accessible location.

Afternoon: Ascend back to the lodge. The focus is on the "wow" factor of the crater, with a shorter overall excursion to prevent fatigue.

    Meals: Full Board

Accommodation: A accessible lodge on the crater rim (e.g., Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge or similar, with ramps and elevators).

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Descent & Overnight in Karatu

Morning: Enjoy an early game drive en route to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After breakfast, descend the 600-meter crater wall.

Mid-Day: Spend the day with a picnic lunch on the crater floor. This is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five, including the endangered black rhino.

Afternoon: After an extensive game drive, ascend the crater and drive to the nearby town of Karatu.

Evening: Check into your lodge for a relaxing evening.

Accommodation Suggestion: Ngorongoro Farm House or Bougainvillea Safari Lodge.

Day 6 & 7: The Endless Plains - Serengeti National Park

Morning (Day 6): After breakfast, we drive to the world-famous Serengeti. The journey offers a transition in landscapes. We will break the drive with a stop at Olduvai Gorge Museum if there is interest.

Afternoon: Enter the Serengeti and enjoy an initial game drive en route to your accessible camp.

Day 7 - Exploring the Serengeti:

Flexible Game Drives: Tailored to your family's interests. We can search for the Great Migration (location dependent on time of year), big cats, or simply enjoy the vastness of the plains.

Alternative Activities: Consider a balloon safari (extra cost, must be booked in advance) for a once-in-a-lifetime, calm perspective from above. Or, a "Sundowner" drive with non-alcoholic drinks and snacks to enjoy the sunset in a quiet, beautiful spot.

    Meals: Full Board

Accommodation: A specially selected, accessible tented camp in a central Serengeti location (e.g., Serengeti Sopa Lodge or a high-end tented camp with wheelchair-accessible walkways and tents).

Day 8: Farewell, Tanzania - Departure

Morning: After a final breakfast in the bush, we transfer to the nearest Serengeti airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Arusha. This flight saves a long drive and is a thrilling end to the safari.

In Arusha: You will be met and transferred to a day room at a hotel near the airport. Here, you can relax, have lunch (own expense), and freshen up.

Evening: Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your outbound flight, filled with incredible memories.

    Meals: Breakfast

    Important Pre-Tour & On-Tour Considerations

    Thorough Tour Preparation:

    • Pre-Trip Questionnaire: We will send a detailed questionnaire to understand the specific needs, preferences, triggers, strengths, and interests of the special needs child and the whole family.

    • Visual Storybook: We will provide a custom-made, simple visual storybook that outlines the journey—airport, jeep, animals, lodges—to help set expectations and reduce anxiety.

    • Video Call: A pre-departure video call with the Tour Director to build rapport and answer any final questions.

    Accessibility & Accommodation:

    • Vehicle: The safari jeep will be equipped with a wheelchair ramp/hoist if required. Interior space will be configured for comfort.

    • Lodges: All accommodations are pre-vetted for:

      • Step-free or ramp access.

      • Wider doorways and roll-in showers or bath chairs.

      • Ground-floor rooms or elevator access.

      • A generally calm and supportive environment.

    Health & Safety:

    • Flying Doctors: Your family is covered by the Flying Doctors Society, ensuring emergency medical evacuation is available 24/7.

    • Tour Director: Your dedicated guide is trained in first aid, patient and empathetic, and skilled at adapting the experience in real-time.

    • Pacing: The itinerary is a template. If a day of rest is needed, it can be arranged. If everyone is full of energy, we can do more.
